Import of agro-food goods causes concern as Moldova can become the country mostly importing these products-, experts of IDIS Viitorul.

As the economic expert of IDIS Viitorul Viorel Chivriga noted on Tuesday, last years the share of agro-food products in total amount of Moldavian export sharply reduced- from 61% in 2004 up to 39,9% in 2007. Decrease is caused by the absence of flexibility both on behalf of producers and exporters of agro-food products and the authorities of the country. Insufficient equipping, weak efficiency and fragility of the agricultural market prevent agro-food sector development.

«Agricultural market of Moldova is characterized by price instability, absence of balance between supply and demand of vegetative goods and frequent threats for food safety of the country », - Viorel Chivriga underlines. It was noted that import of meat, fish, cocoa, grain, flour, dairy, confectionery products, tobacco and tobacco substitutes in Moldova exceeds export. At the same time, import of alcohol, soft drinks, grain, flour, vinegar, dairy and confectionery products is growing, meanwhile, in 2007 export of alcohol, soft drinks and vinegar has sharply reduced -up to the level of 2000. Chivriga has noted that food industry has considerable potential for development and expansion, mainly due to variety of agricultural raw materials of vegetative and animal origin. In order to increase export of agro-industrial products, including foodstuffs, the experts of IDIS Viitorul offer to optimize structure of agricultural plantations, equipment of agricultural subsidiaries, to create divisions on supply of modern equipment, technologies and high-quality planting material, and to provide unlimited and equal access to subsidizing in agriculture. //21.10.2008 – InfoMarket
